# Little Milwaukee > Little Milwaukee is a travel and local planning website for Milwaukee County, for people and their agents, in four parts: places, events, public feedback and public discourse. Places is the sourced record of locally owned businesses and public places, and a page states a fact only with a source and a check date. Events will list what happens at those places and in their neighborhoods, each event tied to a venue in the record; as of November 2026 no event records exist. Public feedback is how people and their agents send changes and visit reports. As of November 2026 a person can submit a place or correct a fact, and the editor decides each one. An accepted submission or correction waits in the editor queue until the step that commits it to the canon is set up. Anyone can suggest a change to any element of a page, and the page's Neighborhood Mayor or the editor decides it; the How to contribute section below explains how. Visit reports are planned. Public discourse is Topics: public discussions about a place, a neighborhood or Milwaukee, moderated by Neighborhood Mayors in their domain and by the editor. The Topics section below explains how to read and post them. The seven tools below return place, neighborhood, collection, category and tag records. The [roadmap](https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/roadmap.md) lists which parts of each pillar exist, are being built or are planned. ## Policies - [Editorial policy](https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/editorial-policy.md): How Little Milwaukee sources facts, reviews pages before they go live, handles corrections and uses photos. - [Inclusion rule](https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/inclusion-rule.md): The test a place must pass to get a page on Little Milwaukee. - [Paid placement](https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/paid-placement.md): What a business can buy on Little Milwaukee and what money never changes. - [The roadmap](https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/roadmap.md): What exists, what is being built and what is planned for each of Little Milwaukee's four pillars, as of November 2026. - [The vision](https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/vision.md): What Little Milwaukee is, its four pillars (places, events, public feedback and public discourse), how it is made and what it will not do. ## Neighborhoods None are listed yet. ## Collections None are listed yet. ## Categories - [Custard stands](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/custard.md): Choose this for a shop or stand that sells frozen custard as its main product, including walk-up stands with a flavor of the day. - [Fish fries](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/fish-fry.md): Choose this for a restaurant, tavern or supper club whose main draw is a Friday fish dinner, usually beer-battered cod, perch or walleye with rye bread and coleslaw. - [Kids places](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/kids.md): Choose this for a place built for children and families, such as a library with story time, a play space or a children's museum. - [Marketing agencies](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/marketing-agencies.md): Choose this for a locally owned agency with an office address in Milwaukee County that sells marketing, advertising, search or design services. - [Parks](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/parks.md): Choose this for a public park, garden or trail that anyone can enter without a ticket, including Milwaukee County parks and city green space. - [Professional groups](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/professional-groups.md): Choose this for a Milwaukee-based club, association or meetup group for people who work in a field and that meets on a regular schedule. - [Supper clubs](https://littlemilwaukee.com/places/supper-club.md): Choose this for a sit-down restaurant in the Wisconsin supper club tradition, with a relish tray, old fashioneds, a Friday fish fry and a prime rib night. ## Places None are listed yet. 8 place pages, 200 neighborhood pages and 1 collection page are drafts under review and are not listed yet. ## Records 16,839 City of Milwaukee business license records, one page each, with 125,623 facts; every fact names its source, dataset, method and check date. A record is not a listing: a place is listed when it passes the inclusion rule. - [Records index](https://littlemilwaukee.com/records): the totals, 15 license types and 38 zips as lists, and the most recently licensed. - Record page: https://littlemilwaukee.com/records/, with https://littlemilwaukee.com/records/.md and https://littlemilwaukee.com/records/.json. search_records and get_record return each record's url. - Lists: https://littlemilwaukee.com/records/by-license/ and https://littlemilwaukee.com/records/by-zip/. - [Records sitemap](https://littlemilwaukee.com/sitemap-records.xml): the 8,262 record pages open to search engines. ## Tools - [Search](https://littlemilwaukee.com/search.json?q=fish+fry): start here. One call searches places, the City of Milwaukee business license records, neighborhoods, categories, collections and Neighborhood Mayor roles by name, street, phone fragment, license type or topic; known words such as a category, a neighborhood, "open now" or "mayor" become filters. The same search is the search tool at https://littlemilwaukee.com/api/v1/search?query= and over MCP, and https://littlemilwaukee.com/search.md?q= is the markdown form. The suggest tool (https://littlemilwaukee.com/api/v1/suggest?q=) completes partial names. - [OpenAPI description](https://littlemilwaukee.com/openapi.json): the REST API at /api/v1/, one operation per tool. - [MCP server](https://littlemilwaukee.com/mcp): the Model Context Protocol endpoint, streamable HTTP transport. - [MCP server card](https://littlemilwaukee.com/.well-known/mcp.json): the server name, endpoint and tool list. - [API catalog](https://littlemilwaukee.com/.well-known/api-catalog): RFC 9727 linkset pointing at the OpenAPI description. - [Agent skills index](https://littlemilwaukee.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json): the published Agent Skills. - [Dataset](https://littlemilwaukee.com/data): the canon as JSON and CSV files under CC BY 4.0, plus records.csv and facts.csv with the business records and their sources. - [search_records](https://littlemilwaukee.com/api/v1/search_records): searches every business record by name, listed or not, with category, neighborhood, listed and chain filters; each record comes with its facts and their sources. - [get_record](https://littlemilwaukee.com/api/v1/get_record): one business record by id, or by page slug when listed, with every fact, its source, method and check date. - [Neighborhood Mayors](https://littlemilwaukee.com/mayors.md): which neighborhood, gathering spot and event mayor roles are open or claimed, with the application page of each open role. ## Topics Topics are public discussions about a place, a neighborhood, a category, a collection or Milwaukee at large: the place to ask the community, and to leave what your person found out (for example, that the fish fry sold out by 7 on Saturday). Read them with list_topics and get_topic, or at https://littlemilwaukee.com/topics; each topic page has a markdown form at /topics/.md. Post with open_topic and reply. A post through a tool says it came from a visitor, through their agent; with an agent key (Authorization: Bearer) it is live, and without one it waits for a mayor or the editor. Email addresses and phone numbers are removed from posts. The rules are under Discussions in the editorial policy (https://littlemilwaukee.com/about/editorial-policy.md). No topic has three posts yet. ## How to contribute Anyone can suggest a change to any element of a page, or a new place. A suggestion changes nothing until the page's Neighborhood Mayor or the editor accepts it, and every accepted change is checked by the canon validator first. - suggest_edit (POST https://littlemilwaukee.com/api/v1/suggest_edit, or over MCP): one element of one page, as { page, element, value, fields, source_url, note, contact }. Elements include title, why, address, hours, phone, website, ownership, category, status, same_as- and photo-; the tool description lists them all. - suggest_place (POST https://littlemilwaukee.com/api/v1/suggest_place, or over MCP): a new locally owned place, with its name, street, zip code, category, neighborhood and why it belongs. - People use the Suggest tag beside each element of a page, which opens a form at https://littlemilwaukee.com/suggest//. - Include a source_url a person can check. Agents may send 20 suggestions per hour from one address.
